Overton is a perfect 9-0 against Kingsbury since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Overton has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Overton managed to slip by Memphis Central the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolverines came up short against the Warriors on Friday, falling 13-5. The Wolverines' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Julian Tallent was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kingsbury). They blew past Memphis Business Academy 21-1 on Monday. The Falcons not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th.
Willian Canizalez Correa made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Deyber Lovera Marin was a standout: he fired off two home runs while going 2-for-2. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Kingsbury is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Christopher Woodruff, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Kingsbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They are 6-3 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Overton's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4-1. As for Kingsbury, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Overton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Kingsbury struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Overton's way against Kingsbury in their previous meeting back in March, as Overton made off with an 18-8 victory. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
