Softball Recap: Seminole Seminoles vs. DeLand Bulldogs

Seminole barely beat DeLand the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Seminoles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs an 11-0 shutout on Friday. With that victory, the Seminoles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Not much got past Ava Matthews, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep DeLand off the board. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Matthews.

On the hitting side, Seminole got a massive performance out of Alexandra Steffano, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Steffano has posted since back in March of 2024. Maggie Long was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Steffano wasn't the only one making solid contact: Seminole kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The Seminoles are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Seminole's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for DeLand, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Seminole will face off against Lake Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Silverhawks will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Seminoles surely won't give up without a fight. As for DeLand, they will square off against Pine Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
