Basketball Recap: Griffin Takes a Loss

Griffin fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Central on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 64-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Lions. While the Bears didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 14-10 in the first quarter.

Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Khaven Cochran out in front who went 7 for 16 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Williams, who posted six points in addition to 15 boards and six blocks.

Griffin's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Griffin will host Mundy's Mill at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Griffin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Mundy's Mill likes a good challenge. As for Central, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Central Lions take on the Jonesboro Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Jonesboro sitting on six straight wins and Central on seven.
