Baseball Recap: Payette Wins Going Away Against Mccall-Donnelly

Payette barely beat McCall-Donnelly the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates put the hurt on the Vandals with a sharp 9-0 win on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pirates also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Jahzyon Sylva made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Joshua Rodriguez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Payette is undefeated when Rodriguez posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Darrien Pecunia, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Payette now has a winning record of 10-9. As for McCall-Donnelly, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Payette will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vandals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
