Basketball Game Preview: Guilderland Flying Dutchmen vs. Columbia Blue Devils

Guilderland and Columbia are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Guilderland Flying Dutchmen are taking a road trip to challenge the Columbia Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Guilderland has three straight victories, Columbia has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Guilderland will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Saratoga Springs, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Guilderland managed a 55-50 win over Saratoga Springs on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Flying Dutchmen's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Blue Streaks are ranked 165th).

Meanwhile, Columbia lost to Albany at home by a 70-54 margin on Friday.

Guilderland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Guilderland might still be hurting after the 68-45 defeat they got from Columbia when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Guilderland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
