Desert Christian and St. Augustine Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Desert Christian Eagles will face off against the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Desert Christian has four straight wins, St. Augustine Catholic has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Desert Christian will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Baboquivari, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Desert Christian walked away with a 60-51 victory over Baboquivari on Saturday.

Tyson Dobbins was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. His afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Colt Schmuker was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 12 points and five rebounds.
Desert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine Catholic played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 71-30 defeat at the hands of Gilbert Classical Academy. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-19.
Despite the loss, St. Augustine Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jovanni Fernandez posted ten points and five boards. Fernandez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Omar Valdez, who put up six points and five rebounds.
Desert Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-15.
Monday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Dobbins and Carlos Acuna. Dobbins has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 27.7 points, 4.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks on 51.6% shooting. For his part, Acuna has averaged 18.2 points, 2.5 steals, and 4.2 boards.
Everything came up roses for Desert Christian against St. Augustine Catholic when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 76-44 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Acuna, who went 12 of 25 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.
