Softball Recap: Reno Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Reno extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 6-14-1. They beat the Galena Grizzlies by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-5. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Grizzlies on their field since March 21, 2024.

Ash Long made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Long was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Saia Loney was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zia Stege, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Reno always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in six consecutive games.

As for Galena, their loss was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-26. Grizzlies fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Reno since Saturday.

On Galena's side, Taylor Cunningham made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Kalia Kaululaau also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Reno will have a chance to go back-to-back against Galena: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
