Bushland had won three straight at home, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 16-11 to make it four. They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the River Road Wildcats. Considering the Falcons have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Colton Strickland and Elliott Hemphill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Strickland pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hemphill pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Strickland went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Hemphill went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Strickland is becoming a predictor of Bushland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-3 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wade McConnell, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colton Reynolds, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Bushland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Road only posted an OBP of .345.
As for River Road, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the team, making it 12 in a row.
On River Road's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Warren, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
As of now, neither Bushland nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
