Soccer Game Preview: McFarland vs. West

The McFarland Cougars will take on the West Vikings in a holiday battle at 4:50 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

McFarland took a six-goal loss the last time they faced off against Wasco, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for McFarland, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Emiliano Covarrubias, who's now up to six this season.

Meanwhile, West lost 4-1 to Tehachapi on Saturday.

McFarland's win bumped their record up to 9-0-4. As for West, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4-1.

Everything went McFarland's way against West when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as McFarland made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
