Recap: Vina Red Devils vs. Phillips Bears
The Vina Red Devils's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They rang in the new year with a 58-46 victory over Phillips. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Vina also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
It was another big night for Sara Harper, who scored 19 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds. Harper is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikala Mitchell, who scored 12 points.
Vina's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Phillips, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vina won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hackleburg at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. Phillips won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Brilliant at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Brilliant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Phillips in Alabama (Brilliant is ranked 196th, while Phillips is ranked 425th).
