Baseball Recap: Basalt's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Basalt had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Meeker Cowboys on Monday as they made off with an 11-5 victory. Considering the Longhorns have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Elias Schendler was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Basalt's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-3 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Chris Hays was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Basalt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Basalt's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Meeker, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-15.

Basalt does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Meeker, they will take on Steamboat Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
