Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Riverside Beavers

For the second straight game, Mayfield will face off against Riverside. The Wildcats will welcome the Beavers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mayfield is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Mayfield managed to slip by Riverside the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Beavers on Monday, falling 12-2.

For Riverside's part, Mason Pozo tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. The Beavers are 4-1 when Pozo allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Austin Wittreich was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Mo Dolce was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Riverside has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
