Basketball Recap: Wootton Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Wootton fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Damascus on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 66-64. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Wootton still got an impressive performance from Chase Mitchell, who went 15-for-29 en route to 40 points. That was a full 62.5% of the Patriots' points, marking the third time in a row Mitchell has posted more than a third of the team's points. Darnel Engoto was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Damascus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Ray, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Jayden Thompson, who put up 14 points and seven rebounds.

Wootton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Damascus, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Wootton and Walter Johnson will compete for holiday cheer at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Damascus will take on Poolesville in a holiday battle at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
