Basketball Recap: Elmira Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Ithaca wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Elmira, they should've done a better job of containing Mariah Matias. The Elmira Express put the hurt on the Ithaca Little Red with a sharp 54-32 win on Wednesday thanks in part to Matias, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. Matias is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Alyvia Heath, who posted eight points. Those eight points gave her a new career-high.

The victory made it two in a row for Elmira and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Ithaca, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Elmira will venture away from home to square off against Horseheads at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Ithaca, they will square off against Waverly at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
