El Modena is 1-8 against Pacifica since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Vanguards will take on the Mariners at 3:15 p.m. El Modena's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Pacifica's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
El Modena was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past Esperanza 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vanguards have posted against the Aztecs since April 20, 2023.

Sara Pinedo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kylie Tafua, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kaitlyn Galasso was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Pacifica faced Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Mariners fell just short of the Comanches by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Catherine Benitez and Arianna Salas stepped up to the plate in a big way. Benitez went 1-for-2 with one home run, while Salas went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Benitez also scored a run, marking her first of the season.
With the defeat, Pacifica broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-9. As for El Modena, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
El Modena skirted past Pacifica 4-3 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vanguards since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
