Basketball Game Preview: John F. Kennedy Rockets vs. La Vernia Bears

The John F. Kennedy Rockets will head out to challenge the La Vernia Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

John F. Kennedy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against San Antonio Memorial on Friday as John F. Kennedy made off with a 75-50 win. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, La Vernia waltzed into their game on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They strolled past the Gobblers with points to spare, taking the game 71-55. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Gobblers are ranked 1116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Vernia pushed their record up to 23-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for John F. Kennedy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-18.

John F. Kennedy took a serious blow against La Vernia when the teams last played back in January, falling 60-33. Can John F. Kennedy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
