Football Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Loss

Mt. Vernon's last matchup with Marion could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Friday. The Rams had to suffer through a 56-21 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-14.

Marion had a senior duo take command as Callahan Roper threw for 320 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt and Junious Thomas picked up 168 receiving yards and three scores. Thomas also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Marcus Hazell was another key player, rushing for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-2. As for Marion, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will look to defend their home field on Friday against Collinsville at 7:00 p.m. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to take on Althoff Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
