Baseball Recap: Bogue Chitto Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bogue Chitto had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top against the Raleigh Lions by a score of 9-5.

Tripp McCaffrey was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Bogue Chitto: the team is undefeated when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 9-10 otherwise. McCaffrey was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Avants, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Tucker Kyzar was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Bogue Chitto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Raleigh only posted an OBP of .382.

Bogue Chitto has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Raleigh, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Bogue Chitto will have a chance to go back-to-back against Raleigh: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
