Volleyball Preview: West Florence Knights vs. St. James Sharks

West Florence is 1-6 against St. James since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Knights will host the Sharks at 5:30 p.m.

West Florence came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Lugoff-Elgin, falling 3-0.

While West Florence had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.

West Florence's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ansley White, who had 20 digs and two assists, and Laura Tiller, who had 15 assists and ten digs. Addison Pusser also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. James, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Carolina Forest on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (102-100) St. James actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11.

West Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for St. James, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.
