Softball Preview: Mammoth Huskies vs. Desert Scorpions

Mammoth is 1-9 against Desert since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mammoth Huskies will be staying on the road to face off against the Desert Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Mammoth fell victim to a rough 23-5 loss at the hands of California City.

Meanwhile, Desert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Bishop Union by a score of 8-6.

Alayna Phillips put in work no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Phillips has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive pitching appearances. Phillips was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBI, and a double.

In other batting news, Caroline Kesler stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Eden Hewes, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Mammoth's record now sits at 1-7-1. As for Desert, their record now sits at 6-6.

Mammoth beat Desert 17-14 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mammoth since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
