It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Paul Lutheran had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Slater Wildcats, posting a 61-30 victory. Considering the Saints have won five games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Creyton Sheets and Easton Sheets both made on the contest. Creyton threw for 143 yards and three TDs while Easton threw for 55 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Easton didn't just play on offense: he also picked up 1.5 sacks, made four total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass. Tate Kreisel did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 39 receiving yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Paul Lutheran's defense and their three sacks. Sheets refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. St. Paul Lutheran received some extra help from Sheets, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
The win got St. Paul Lutheran back to even at 5-5. As for Slater, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Coming up, St. Paul Lutheran will challenge Concordia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Slater does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
