Preview: Naselle Comets vs. Chief Leschi Warriors
Naselle is 4-0 against Chief Leschi since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Naselle Comets will look to defend their home field against the Chief Leschi Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Naselle got themselves on the board against Taholah, but Taholah never followed suit. They breezed by the Chitwhins on the road to the tune of 70-0. The victory was just what Naselle needed coming off of a 62-8 defeat in their prior matchup.
Caiden Burke was on fire: he rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Scott Henington, who rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns.
Chief Leschi had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They blew past Sound Christian 80-0 on the road. Chief Leschi pushed the score to 72-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Sound Christian had no chance of recovering from.
Chief Leschi's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joseph Earl led the charge by throwing for 249 yards and five touchdowns on only eight passes. Earl is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Yadiel (mickey) Lara was another key contributor, picking up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Naselle to 8-1 and Chief Leschi to 6-1.
Everything came up roses for Naselle against Chief Leschi in their previous matchup back in October of 2021 as the team secured a 54-16 win. Will Naselle repeat their success, or does Chief Leschi have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
