Basketball Game Preview: Western Warriors vs. Del Sol Dragons

The Western Warriors will head out to challenge the Del Sol Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Monday, Western came up short against Shadow Ridge and fell 54-45. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Del Sol played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 68-40 loss at the hands of Cimarron-Memorial. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Spartans are ranked 12th).

Western will have to contain Jaeden Alexander as he made an impact in Del Sol's last game. He went 7 for 17 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. Alexander's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. William Philips was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Del Sol smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Western's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Del Sol, they dropped their record down to 4-16 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Western against Del Sol in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 71-44 win. In that match, Western amassed a halftime lead of 43-20, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
