Basketball Game Preview: South Delta Bulldogs vs. Simmons Blue Devils

South Delta is 2-8 against Simmons since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Delta Bulldogs will welcome the Simmons Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

South Delta will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating West Tallahatchie, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. South Delta walked away with a 55-44 win over West Tallahatchie two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Simmons put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Shaw by a score of 52-45. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Warriors are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Simmons' win came from a few key players South Delta will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Vontasia Rush, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Akiah Prince was another key player, going 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

The victory got South Delta back to even at 5-5. As for Simmons, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

South Delta beat Simmons 38-31 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Prince, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will South Delta still be able to contain Prince? There's only one way to find out.
