Softball Game Preview: Greensburg Pirates vs. Connersville Spartans

Greensburg is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Connersville is on a nine-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pirates will welcome the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Greensburg had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Rushville on Monday. The Pirates never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.

Connersville came out on top against Cambridge City Lincoln on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Spartans blew past the Golden Eagles 14-1.

Jade Green made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Connersville let Bre Brock and Carmen Ruble run wild. Brock went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Ruble went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Phillips, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Connersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 12-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Connersville is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Greensburg, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
