Volleyball Recap: Hopewell-Loudon Falls Despite Big Games from Araceli Velasquez and Maddie Holcomb

Hopewell-Loudon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Seneca East Tigers, falling 3-0. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-20, 25-15.

Maddie Holcomb and Araceli Velasquez certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Holcomb had 18 digs, while Velasquez had seven digs. Holcomb has been hot, having posted 13 or more digs the last seven times she's played.

Seneca East was led to victory by Paige Strawser and Luella Burkholder. Strawser had 30 assists and nine digs, while Burkholder had four digs, three aces, and two blocks. That's the most aces Burkholder has posted since back in September.

Hopewell-Loudon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Seneca East, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Hopewell-Loudon will challenge Woodmore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seneca East, they will take on Upper Sandusky at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
