Baseball Game Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. James River Midlothian Rapids

Powhatan is 1-7 against James River Midlothian since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Indians will look to defend their home field against the Rapids at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Powhatan proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Patrick Henry, sneaking past 2-1.

Meanwhile, James River Midlothian got the win against Monacan on Monday by a conclusive 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Rapids, who have now won three matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jayden Grant made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Harris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Eli Hulette was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Powhatan's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for James River Midlothian, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Powhatan couldn't quite finish off James River Midlothian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
