Preview: West Elk Patriots vs. Argonia Red Raiders
The West Elk Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Argonia Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully West Elk focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
West Elk had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Argonia 44-24. West Elk has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 20 points or more this season.
West Elk's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Briea McGee led the charge by scoring ten points along with five steals and three blocks. McGee continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Makaila Gillespie was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
West Elk's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Argonia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
Everything went West Elk's way against Argonia when the teams last played on Friday as West Elk made off with a 44-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Elk since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
