At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tanner Leonard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Eric Chavez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Canon City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmer struck out 13 times.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain faced Falcon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Red-Tailed Hawks fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-7.
Nate Glad made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Jansen Roberts was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs and one double.
Canon City pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4-1.
Cheyenne Mountain's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Canon City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Cheyenne Mountain, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Canon City's sizable advantage in that area, the Red-Tailed Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
