Softball Recap: Ventura Drops Season-High Score on Buena

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ventura). Everything went their way against the Buena Bulldogs on Friday as Ventura made off with a 17-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Brooklynn Bishop was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Zayra Landeros was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Ventura hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive contests.

Ventura's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buena, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Ventura will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nordhoff at 3:30 p.m. on the 31st. As for Buena, they will take on Santa Paula at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Buena's pitchers better be ready for this one: Santa Paula has averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
