League recap: Otay Ranch tops Bonita Vista to extend winning streak

Otay Ranch extended the longest winning streak in Metro - Mesa this week by beating Bonita Vista, 40-10. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Olympian took down El Capitan 41-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Christopher Humphery threw for 102 yards and two touchdowns and ran for nine yards in the win.

Otay Ranch's dynamic duo of Kyle Hawkins and Chris Martin proved tough for the Barons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hawkins threw for 351 yards and five touchdowns and Martin had 187 yards receiving. Giovanni Meza helped Otay Ranch's passing attack out by catching three balls for 95 yards.

Aaron Baltazar was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 189 yards as Eastlake bested Bonita Vista. Teammate Tavarus Green added to the ground attack by rushing for 86 yards.

The Mustangs' Hawkins and Martin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hawkins has thrown for 1130 yards this season, while Martin, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 26 catches for 728 yards. Jevante Reed from Chula Vista leads the league in rushing with 933 yards.

The top two teams in Metro - Mesa will face off this week when first place Otay Ranch takes on second place Olympian. Last week, Otay Ranch beat the Barons, while the Eagles bested the Vaqueros.

The Spartans' Reed is a mere 67 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Olympian takes on the Mustangs. Gil Warren's team has allowed 64 points this season, while Otay Ranch has given up 93. The Eagles allowed 6 points last week as they topped El Capitan.

The Titans led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Chula Vista. Baltazar caught one passes for four yards in the win.
