Softball Game Preview: Madison Patriots vs. Draughn Wildcats

The Madison Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Draughn Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Last Wednesday, Madison got the win against Freedom by a conclusive 14-2. Madison has beaten Freedom the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Freedom has come to flipping the script.

Carrie Gunter spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Gosnell and Ezra Reed did most of the damage at the plate: Gosnell scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Reed scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Gosnell also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Addie Sams was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Madison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Draughn came up short against Owen on Friday, falling 11-1. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Madison's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Draughn, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Madison might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Draughn in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
