Softball Recap: Mount Union Trojans vs. Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs
Mount Union extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-12 in the process. They lost 11-3 to the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 two weeks ago.
Reagan Yocum and Payton Williams stepped up to the plate in a big way. Yocum got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two runs.
As for Claysburg-Kimmel, the win keeps they at an undefeated 17-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 9.1 runs thus far.
On Claysburg-Kimmel's side, Payton Hinish was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave Hinish a new career-high. Jaylee Swindell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Mount Union will take on Glendale at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they will face off against Northern Bedford County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
