Basketball Game Preview: Midd-West Mustangs vs. Newport Buffaloes

Midd-West is on a ten-game streak of home losses also dating back to last season, Newport a ten-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Saturday. The Midd-West Mustangs will take on the Newport Buffaloes in a holiday battle at at 7:15 p.m. The two teams are at an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2016, but likely not for long.

Midd-West is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 68-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Juniata on Wednesday.

Midd-West might have lost, but man, D'Zani Coley was a machine: he went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 30 points and four steals. Those 30 points gave Coley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Grover, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Newport might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy an easy 57-37 win.

Midd-West's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Newport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Midd-West was able to grind out a solid victory over Newport in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 51-38. Will Midd-West repeat their success, or does Newport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
