Softball Recap: Kankakee Sets Scoring Season-High Against Crete-Monee

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kankakee). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Crete-Monee Warriors on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Kays in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won eight in a row.

Kylee Cunningham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendyl Christon, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Covington, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

Kankakee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Kankakee's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Crete-Monee, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Kankakee will face off against Thornwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Kays will need to watch out since the Thunderbirds have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight contests. As for Crete-Monee, they will challenge Bloom at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blazing Trojan have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
