Football Preview: Urbana Tigers vs. Bloomington Purple Raiders

Urbana is 0-5 against Bloomington since October of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Urbana Tigers will be playing at home against the Bloomington Purple Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Urbana focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up four on Friday.

Urbana is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They were outmatched by Champaign Central on the road and fell 59-6. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-6.

Meanwhile, Bloomington put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Normal West 48-16 on the road. The Purple Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 27 points or more this season.

Rob Lanier was his usual excellent self, rushing for 172 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 116.8 rushing yards per game. AJ Codron was another key player, throwing for 110 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Bloomington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 295 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Urbana's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bloomington, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
