Baseball Recap: Madison Drops Highest Score of Season Against North Buncombe

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison). Everything went their way against the North Buncombe Black Hawks on Wednesday as Madison made off with a 15-5 win. Considering the Patriots have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caden Lounsbury made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Madison is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Lounsbury was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Max Shelton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also launched a home run, which is notable because Madison is 3-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 3-4 otherwise. Caleb Griffin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Madison's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for North Buncombe, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison will venture away from home to challenge Rosman at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Rosman has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.15 runs per game on average), something Madison will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Buncombe, they are taking a road trip to square off against Asheville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
