The St. Paul's Episcopal Saints will challenge the Baker Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, St. Paul's Episcopal put up the most points they have all season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Vigor as St. Paul's Episcopal made off with a 25-5 victory. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Baker entered their tilt with Mary G. Montgomery on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings, sneaking past 15-13. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Katlyn Cone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and 12 unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.
At the plate, Lauren Mordecai was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Nola Havard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI.
Baker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Baker pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for St. Paul's Episcopal, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
St. Paul's Episcopal suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Baker in their previous matchup last Friday. Can St. Paul's Episcopal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
