Softball Recap: Port Allen Comes Up Short

Port Allen fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against False River on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the False River Gators by a score of 25-24. The loss was the Pelicans' first of the season.

Marsha Shirley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored five runs and stole ten bases while going 6-for-6. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Courtney Courville was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while going 3-for-5.

Even though they lost, Port Allen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .645 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Port Allen dropped their record down to 2-1 with the loss, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Port Allen will host Central Lafourche at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Port Allen knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Central Lafourche likes a good challenge. As for False River, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Port Allen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
