Basketball Game Preview: Post Antelopes vs. Floydada Whirlwinds

The Post Antelopes will venture away from home to square off against the Floydada Whirlwinds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Post lost to Tahoka on the road by a 57-41 margin. The loss continues a trend for the Antelopes in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Floydada). They took their matchup on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 94-54 win over Ralls. Given the Whirlwinds' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 1445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Floydada's win came from a few key players Post will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Braun Hobbs, who dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 assists. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Valadez, who went 11 for 23 en route to 28 points and three steals.

Floydada smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Floydada is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.7 points per game. As for Post, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Post was dealt a bruising 73-45 loss at the hands of Floydada when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Can Post avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
