Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Wildcats vs. Patriot Pioneers

The Mountain View Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Patriot Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain View is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Mountain View took a blow against Colonial Forge, falling 58-16. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Eagles are ranked 116th).

Meanwhile, Patriot lost to Battlefield at home by a 45-27 margin on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Mountain View will have to keep a close watch on Cheyenne Sweeney and Maysa Bilal, a pair of players who had a big impact on Patriot's prior game. Sweeney dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, while Bilal posted seven points. Those ten rebounds gave Sweeney a new career-high. Sadie Herres also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mountain View's record now sits at 5-10. As for Patriot, their record now sits at 4-13.

Mountain View might still be hurting after the 66-45 defeat they got from Patriot when the teams last played on Thursday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sweeney, who had 24 points and seven boards. Now that Mountain View knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
