Basketball Recap: Columbus Finds Home Court Redemption Against Norfolk

There's no place like home for Columbus, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 57-45 win over the Norfolk Panthers on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Discoverers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Columbus had a senior duo take command as Quinn Freshour went 8 for 14 on his way to 22 points and three steals and Luke Messersmith went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Freshour. Jaxson Vasicek was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Drew Streich and Damien Jones certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Streich went 7 of 17 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jones almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Rabbass, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

The victory got Columbus back to even at 4-4. As for Norfolk, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Columbus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 78-33 defeat against Lincoln North Star on the 7th. As for Norfolk, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-53 loss against Fremont on the 7th.
