Baseball Game Preview: Booker T. Washington Wildcats vs. Laurel Hill Hoboes

The Booker T. Washington Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Laurel Hill Hoboes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Booker T. Washington has three straight victories, Laurel Hill has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Booker T. Washington barely beat Pine Forest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wildcats have posted against the Eagles since March 23, 2022.

Travis Bright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, JJ Startzel was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Brown, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Laurel Hill lost 27-4 to Aletheia Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Laurel Hill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Henderson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Nathan Gemina was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Laurel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Booker T. Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.

Booker T. Washington took their win against Laurel Hill in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 15-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
