Baseball Recap: Kerens Beats Avalon for Their Tenth Straight Victory

Kerens came tearing into Tuesday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Avalon Eagles a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Bobcats have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Krayton Ritchie was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lionel Escobedo was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matt Rickard, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Kerens hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Kerens' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Avalon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8-1.
