Softball Recap: Madison Central Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Madison Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the West Washington Senators 11-10. The Indians' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Madison Central got a great performance from Sydney Smith as she tossed six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Devan Stewart was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Colegrove, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Madison Central pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for West Washington, they moved to 12-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Madison Central will welcome Harrison County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 3.9, the Thorobreds/Fillies 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West Washington, they will face off against Assumption at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Senators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
