Basketball Recap: Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton Takes a Loss

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton lost against Father McGivney Catholic back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton were dealt a 91-22 loss at the hands of the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins. While losing is never fun, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 644th, while Father McGivney Catholic is ranked 276th).

Cara Tripp-Reams was Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Ashlyn Stayton held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Father McGivney Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devin Ellis led the charge by going 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. What's more, Ellis also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Peyton Ellis, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10. As for Father McGivney Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they will head out to challenge Wesclin at 2:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
