Softball Recap: Independence Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Independence waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the James Lick Comets 16-1. The 76ers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Laila Morales was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Sanchez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .621. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Independence's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for James Lick, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will welcome San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for James Lick, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Overfelt at 4:00 p.m. The Comets are facing the Royals at the right time seeing as the Royals are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
