Football Recap: Minh Vu Key Part of Team Effort in Warriors Win

Danville proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 43) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hamilton Heights Huskies 27-24. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Danville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Minh Vu out in front who rushed for 140 yards and one TD. Those 140 rushing yards gave Vu a new career-high. Carter Ward was another key player, rushing for 43 yards and a pair of scores.

Danville's run defense was locked in: Hamilton Heights could only muster 1.9 yards per carry. While four picked up at least one total tackle, Vu stood above the rest. He rushed for 140 yards and one touchdown. Danville's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.1.

Danville's defense didn't let Drew Woodruff., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Logan Thompson was the leader with two sacks.

Despite the defeat, Hamilton Heights had strong showings from Woodruff, who threw for 194 yards and a pair of TDs, and Cam Fleming, who picked up 68 receiving yards and two scores. Will DeStefano was in the mix too, providing the Huskies with one touchdown.

The win got Danville back to even at 2-2. As for Hamilton Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Danville will face off against Tri-West Hendricks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hamilton Heights, they will square off against Western at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
