Softball Recap: Riverside Takes a Loss

Medical Lake hit Riverside with a five-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams lost 13-3 to the Cardinals. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 22-18.

Riverside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Cotner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Cotner is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Chloe Nelson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Riverside has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Medical Lake, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

While Riverside had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
