They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 win over the Fort Calhoun Pioneers on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Nebraska City's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Fort Calhoun is ranked 112th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Nebraska City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caleb Walker, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most steals Walker has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Hodges, who scored 15 points and eight rebounds.
Nebraska City's win bumped their record up to 3-17. As for Fort Calhoun, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-10.
Looking ahead, Nebraska City will head out to square off against Palmyra at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Nebraska City has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Fort Calhoun, they will challenge Tekamah-Herman at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Calhoun is facing Tekamah-Herman at the right time seeing as Tekamah-Herman is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
